The Departments of the Laboratory

In order to provide services for the goals mentioned above, the following departments have been developed and operate:

1. Outpatient clinic for Osteoporosis

The Osteoporosis and Bone Metabolic Diseases Clinic is situated in the outpatient clinics of KAT Hospital and is attended by more than 1000 patients yearly.

2. Department of Clinical Research related to Bone Metabolic Diseases

This department conducts clinical research related to bone metabolism. It is directly connected to the Osteoporosis Clinic at KAT hospital and with the Departments of Bone Densitometry, Bone Biochemistry and Bone Histomorphometry.

3. Department of Biomechanics and kinesics

This department studies and calculates the strength of bones and the mechanical properties of the musculoskeletal system in general with the appropriate equipment.

4. Bone Biochemistry Laboratory

This department conducts biochemical tests for calcium equilibrium and biochemical bone markers of bone turnover in blood and urine samples.

5. Department of Pathology and Bone Histomorphometry.

6. Department of Bone Densitometry with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (pQCT).

7. Department of Documentation and Medical Statistics.

8. Experimental Surgery

The experimental surgery of the LRMS is well equiped with two operating rooms and another one with microsurgical microscopes used for education and training of Microsurgery.
